News Verbatim Retreat 02.12.2021

Last weekend, Year 10 students Anna and Victoria performed alongside students from other schools in a verbatim piece of theatre at The Playground Theatre.

Verbatim Theatre involves using the actual words of real people, and only the actual words – no additional fiction added. The piece was devised by the students involved, across many London schools, and is in response to seeing the production Grenfell: Value Engineering. Using skills learnt in workshops, they used videos, interviews and transcripts made in the aftermath of the Grenfell catastrophe, from a wide range of sources of their own choosing. The performance was followed by a short Q+A, and we were delighted to learn that acclaimed Verbatim Theatre playwright/director Nicholas Kent was in attendance.
