News Lower Sixth Biologists visit Epping Forest 28.06.2023

On Monday, our Lower Sixth A Level Biology students embarked on a practical-filled trip to Epping Forest.

Students attended a quadrat workshop, where they explored how closed and gridded quadrats can be used to estimate density, local frequency, and percentage cover. Additionally, they employed a sampling technique to assess species diversity in two distinct environments. This focused on comparing species diversity in light and dark areas using random sampling, with data analysis relying on Simpson’s Diversity Index. The students not only expanded their biological knowledge but also honed their mathematical and statistical skills through data analysis. The students relished the experience and found the fieldwork highly enjoyable.
