News International Women in Engineering Day 2021 24.06.2021

On Wednesday 20 students from Years 7 to 9 took part in a webinar hosted by engineering firm Max Fordham for International Women in Engineering Day 2021.

The four female speakers explained what had inspired them to become engineers and described the various projects they had worked on including redeveloping the Natural History Museum’s Nature Project, making a twelfth century kitchen more energy efficient, and building homes that require less energy for heating and produce fewer carbon emissions. They explained that good communication skills and the ability to work well with people were vital to being successful as an engineer and gave examples from their own studies of pursuing languages and art before deciding to focus on engineering.

The overall message of the talk was how engineering is about helping people by making our world better and more beautiful. The girls thoroughly enjoyed the webinar, asked many questions and learnt about the the range of opportunities available to engineers.
