Congratulations to Year 9 cellist Inez, who became the youngest student to be selected for the semi-finals of the prestigious Polar Star Prize in Sweden.
The Polar Star Prize is a competition for young musicians between the ages of 14-18 that hail from Sweden. Contestants travelled to Vänersborg to play in different ensembles and orchestras and fine-tune their technique with the help of the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra. The panel of judges selects eight semi-finalists and then four finalists who will compete against each other at the finals held in the Gothenburg Concert Hall. Facing off against a number of Sixth Form students, Inez performed wonderfully well in the semi-final despite being the younger competitor. She sadly did not reach the final but it was a fantastic experience and the organisers have asked her to return next year.
