News Historical Fiction-writing Competition 05.05.2022

Congratulations to Julieta, Florence and Rachel in Year 7 for their winning entries in the History department’s Fiction-writing Competition.

Students are encouraged to write a story which displays good historical understanding of their chosen time period as well as appropriate use of language and vocabulary. Students are expected to undertake some research to ensure that the setting and its treatment is convincing. We had a strong competition this year and we awarded first prize to Florence Golding for her essay which looked at the Bayeux Tapestry and the women who crafted this celebrated artefact. Runners up were Rachel Silva, whose story focused on the civil rights bus protests in the American south in the 1950s, and Julieta Harte who explored the Irish Potato famine in the 1840s.

All three have also entered their stories into the Historical Association Write Your Own Historical Fiction Competition, an award in which Godolphin students have been successful three times. Fingers crossed for these impressive entries!
