News Years 7, 8 and 9 Excelled at the Junior Music Scholars’ Concert 19.06.2025

Last week, we were delighted to hold the second of our annual Music Scholars’ Concerts, featuring all of our Music Scholars in Years 7, 8 and 9.

The concert began with Giselle, who performed two movements from Handel’s Harp Concerto in B-flat major with wonderful stylistic awareness, elegance and musical maturity. There was a great deal of poise and expression in evidence here too – bravo!

Ella followed with the Presto from Bach’s Violin Sonata No. 1 in G minor, a formidable technical challenge which was performed with vivacity and energy. Her performance of Fritz Kreisler’s Liebesleid offered a striking contrast, filled with romantic nuance and sweeping phrases.

On the double bass, Miharu brought warmth and sweetness to Rossini’s Une Larme – it was wonderful to hear this piece used in a really melodic context. In Ida Carroll’s Toccata, Miharu impressed with rhythmic drive and confident articulation, handling the modern idiom with assurance.

Emma interpretation of Chopin’s Polonaise in C-sharp minor was bold and expressive. Her dynamic control and dramatic pacing captured the grandeur of the piece wonderfully, and her technical mastery was truly impressive, with superb voicing of the chords throughout.

On the violin, Francesca gave a beautifully poised and lyrical performance of the Andante from Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor. This was mature and sophisticated playing indeed, and Francesca’s bowing and intonation were wonderfully impressive.

The concert concluded with Pearl Chertok’s Around the Clock Suite played by Meredith. This was a wonderful, playful performance, delivered with charm and precision,  and Meredith navigated the syncopated rhythms and whimsical character with tremendous poise.

This was a staggeringly good concert – many congratulations to all performers!
