News Year 8 Geographers Explore Burnham Beeches 16.10.2025
On Wednesday 14 October the whole of Year 8 visited Burnham Beeches in Buckinghamshire on a Geography trip. Over the course of the half term, they have been learning all about the biosphere and the factors causing the distribution of global biomes. The aim of the trip was to investigate the UK’s biome of deciduous woodlands. The girls undertook fieldwork to investigate the differences between ecosystems within the forest. This involved using clinometers, tape measures, quadrats and PH meters to learn the height, ages and soil acidity of beech, oak and pine trees. Over the next few weeks the girls will be using the data they collected to write independent fieldwork reports to answer hypotheses they came up with in class.
In between fieldwork collection the girls enjoyed a picnic and a few games of tag, and the eagle-eyed members of the year-group conducted a leaf hunt to see what trees they could identify. Thankfully the rain stayed away and it was a thoroughly enjoyable autumnal day out!
