News Year 10 TED Ed Academic Communication Course 16.03.2026

On Monday 16 March, 115 Year 10 students presented their TED-style talks to an audience of parents as the culmination of the G&L Futures Academic Communication Course.

Since January, students have taken part in nine fortnightly sessions, choosing a question they genuinely cared about, researching it using academic sources, and building a talk around their findings. Topics ranged from neuroscience and elite sport to capitalism, gender, and the nature of hope – a testament to the breadth of intellectual curiosity in the year-group.

The course has two aims: to give students a grounding in academic research as preparation for the EPQ or Extended Essay, and to develop the ability to communicate complex thinking to a live audience – a skill that will serve them well beyond school.

The standard of the talks was impressive, the range of thinking genuinely wide, and the courage it took to stand up and deliver them was evident in every single presentation.
