News Year 10 Innovators Take Part in Tech Prototyping Workshop 09.03.2026
As part of Samsung’s Solve for Tomorrow competition, Year 10 Innovation and Leadership students participated in an engaging one-hour prototyping workshop led by Sheree Oliver from the organisation Tech She Can.
The session began with an exploration of the evolution of modern inventions. Students were fascinated to see how familiar technologies have developed over time, including an early model of a toaster, which proved particularly intriguing. Students were then introduced to different types of prototypes. While prototypes are often thought of as physical models, the workshop highlighted that early ideas can also take the form of sketches, diagrams or storyboards. This helped students understand how inventors test and refine concepts at different stages of development.
During the practical portion of the workshop, students worked in small groups and were provided with a selection of everyday materials. They were given 25 minutes to design a prototype that uses technology to support a healthy lifestyle. The activity sparked impressive creativity, with ideas ranging from systems that help people monitor their water intake to technology that adjusts lighting in a room to encourage better sleep. The students enthusiastically presented their inventions to one another, demonstrating both creativity and strong collaborative skills.
Adding to the excitement, Clementine and Francesca’s idea from the original competition entry has been selected to progress to the next stage of Samsung Solve for Tomorrow. The workshop provided valuable skills that will help them further refine their concept and develop a prototype for the semi-final stage. We wish them the very best of luck as they continue in the competition.
