News Virtuoso Performances at Lower School Music Scholars’ Concert 18.06.2026

On Friday 12 June, our Lower School Music Scholars gave a recital, showcasing an impressive range of repertoire and talent.

The concert began with Meredith’s (Year 9) performance of Henriette Renié’s Danse des Lutins for harp. This virtuosic work was performed with remarkable dexterity and precision. Meredith captured both the excitement of the music, providing a thrilling display of musicianship.

Next, Henrietta (Year 7) performed Chopin’s Fantaisie-Impromptu and Chopin’s Waltz in A-flat Major for piano. The Impromptu was a masterclass on finger work and virtuosity. The Waltz was an extremely stylish performance, characterised by a beautifully singing melodic line and a confident sense of rubato. Henrietta captured the charm and sophistication of Chopin’s writing with great poise and musicality.

The programme continued with Miharu’s (Year 8) performance of Astor Piazzolla’s Kicho for double bass. This was a characterful interpretation, capturing the rhythmic vitality and distinctive tango influences of the work. Miharu performed with confidence and a strong sense of musical personality.

Ella (Year 8) followed with two contrasting works for violin: Telemann’s Vivace and Ethel Barns’ Morceau. The Telemann was lively and demonstrated an excellent sense of style, while the Barns was performed with warmth and expressive phrasing.

Ottilie (Year 7) then performed Madeline Dring’s Italian Dance for oboe. This was a spirited and engaging performance, full of charm. Ottilie demonstrated excellent control and a beautifully focused tone, bringing the playful character of the piece to life.

The concert concluded with Katherine (Year7) performing Saint-Saëns’ Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso for violin. This virtuosic work was delivered with real flair, combining technical passages with expressive lyricism. Katherine navigated the contrasting moods of the piece with remarkable maturity and confidence.
