News Small but Mighty: the Battle of the Tiny Heroes 04.03.2026
On Tuesday, Year 8 students were launched into their new biodiversity project, Tiny Heroes — an initiative that combines environmental sustainability with the development of research, communication and presentation skills.
The project opened with a powerful video narrated by Sir David Attenborough, highlighting the growing threats facing the planet’s millions of species. Students were encouraged to consider why biodiversity matters: from maintaining the balance of ecosystems and supporting food chains to underpinning medicine, economic stability and nature’s ability to recover from crisis. Biodiversity, they learned, is nothing less than Earth’s life-support system.
As part of Tiny Heroes, students will turn their attention to the often-overlooked small species — the unsung organisms that quietly play vital roles in sustaining life on our planet. Each team will research a chosen species and create a persuasive communication piece championing its importance to environmental sustainability.
The project will culminate in a lively finale, The Battle of the Tiny Heroes, where teams will go head-to-head to argue why their super hero deserves top spot!
