News Sixth Form Visit to the Henry Moore Studios and Gardens 26.09.2025

Henry Moore once said that ‘sculpture is an art of the open air,’ and our Sixth Form art students saw exactly what he meant on their visit to the Henry Moore Studios and Gardens on Wednesday 24 September. They had the chance to experience not only the beauty of Henry Moore’s finished work, but also the environment where he created it. From large-scale sculptures to tapestries, prints, and drawings, they saw how Moore worked in many different forms.

The 72-acre site includes his outdoor sculptures, studios, workshops, and his home, where students could see the more personal side of his creative process — how he experimented with shapes and ideas. The visit encouraged our students to think about materials, size, perspective, and recurring themes in his work like nurture and shelter. They left feeling inspired, and their observations from the day will surely influence their own projects back in the studio.
