News Science Research Students Attend IRIS Conference 26.06.2025

On 25 June 27 students went to present their research to the IRIS Conference at Friends House in London.  Students worked on a variety of exciting projects this year – such as using satellite imaging and scanning data to model the progression of wildfires in Turkey and Israel; examining the difference in frequency of specific sounds in different British dialects; exploring the intonational differences in emotional speech; using CAD software to model the addition of hydrogen fuel tanks to aeroplanes and minimise drag; learning to code in Python in order to access CERN data and replicate the discovery of the Higgs Boson or to model planetary orbits; and original research examining the ability to chemically recycle plastic through hydrolysis.

Beginning work in September, these students have been developing the skills necessary to create and explore their own research questions, to access, analyse, or develop data needed to answer these questions, and at the conference, to communicate their methodology and results.  They were able to discuss their work alongside fellow students from other schools, as well as academics, scientists and professionals who work with CERN, study neuroscience and the brain, build telescopes like the James Webb, and analyse their photos, or who safety test electronics while moving through an apprenticeship program.

Congratulations to the girls who have committed themselves to such rewarding and interesting projects.
