Settling in at Year 7
A smooth transition

All girls who accept a place are invited to spend the day at Godolphin in late May, taking part in sporting and fun activities. This allows them to meet other new girls, have lunch with the current Year 7, and start to familiarise themselves with the school.

Prior to the girls starting in Year 7, very careful thought is put into the make-up of each form including the allocation of feeder schools and where girls live, in order to ensure a smooth and comfortable start to their school experience.

The purpose of this evening in June is for parents and girls to meet with tutors and all key members of staff who will play an important role in their daily life at school. Whilst the parents and carers get a little more information from staff, girls head off and have fun in their new form groups.

New Year 7 girls start school in September the day before most other students return from the holidays. Welcomed at the school gates, they will quickly set off in groups on a Treasure Hunt to explore and familiarise themselves with the site and will be introduced to the daily running of school life before everyone else returns.

During the first week of school Year 7 take part in a bonding day that includes all sorts of fun activities, puzzles and challenges, giving them a chance to get to know tutors and other girls from across the year.

The new Year 7 girls will be allocated a Year 8 buddy from within the same House and will receive a welcome letter from them during the summer holidays. Girls are encouraged to meet up at House meetings; being part of a House helps girls settle in and feel a sense of belonging. We also have a schedule of events (outside House meetings) throughout the course of the year, allowing girls the opportunity to get to know each other well.

In addition to a whole year welcome evening in September, parents will be invited to a coffee morning for their daughter’s form and other events during the school year to welcome them to the Godolphin and Latymer community. Parents will have already received information about the Parent Portal which is the hub for parent communications.

All girls in Year 7 take part in a Form production rehearsed in drama lessons in the first term. This is a wonderful opportunity for all the girls to collaborate on a large and very enjoyable project. All parents will be invited to the final performance.
