News Upper Sixth Biologists Conduct Fieldwork at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew 27.02.2026

At the end of February, our Upper Sixth biologists visited Kew gardens to undertake some field work, investigating two contrasting habitats within the grounds. Kew Gardens is a UNESCO World Heritage site with over 50,000 living plants and very conveniently is just a short tube ride away.

Students began by measuring a range of abiotic factors, including light intensity, soil temperature, humidity and soil moisture content, using field equipment provided on site. They then explored how these environmental variables influence plant growth and distribution through random sampling techniques and the use of quadrats. Our students demonstrated impressive practical skills, working methodically and confidently.
