News Imperial College Experts Inspire Students on Life Sciences Careers 23.01.2026
We were excited to welcome Professor of Microbiology, Brian Robertson, and Dr Maria Elisa Lopes Pires (Teaching Fellow in Biomedical Science ) from Imperial College Faculty of Medicine into school today to talk about Careers in Life Sciences.
The message was that an interest in Biology doesn’t only lead to career paths that are clinical such as Medicine, Dentistry or Veterinary. Professor Robertson and Dr Lopes Pires spoke about the breadth of careers available to graduates with a life sciences background and the huge range of job opportunities on offer. Specifically they shared their personal career journeys, advised on what employers look for when they are hiring graduates and provided strategies to help students choose the degrees that will best position them for their preferred career paths. We even got an early insight into a completely new and exciting degree that they are creating at Imperial College – the MSci in Medical Sciences and Innovation.
