News History of Art Students Explore Turner and Constable at Tate Britain 05.02.2026
On Friday 30 January the Lower Sixth and Upper Sixth History of Art students visited Tate Britain, to see the ‘Turner and Constable: Rivals and Originals’ exhibition, while also checking in with works in the permanent collection relevant to their A Level and IB courses. Led by Dr Williams and Mr Grimble, the students absorbed themselves in Constable’s cloud studies and Turner’s sublime stormscapes, exercising their technical knowledge and judgement to compare the two painters at length.
Students also saw sculptures by Hepworth, Gaudier-Brzeska and others familiar from lessons, this time analysing and rediscovering them in three dimensions. All students from both years were on their mettle, exchanging insights and enthusiasm for hours and making the very most of the visit.
