News From F1 Design to Podium: Success at the STEM Racing Regional Competition 13.02.2026

On the Thursday before half-term, students accompanied by Mr Stephens headed off to take part in the full-day STEM Racing Regional Competition at Harlow College. Five teams made up of students from Year 11 and the Lower Sixth competed with other schools from the London area, showcasing their amazing work on the STEM Racing project. All the teams did an amazing job with Lights Out Racing finishing in 2nd place overall in the Professional Class and qualifying for this year’s National Finals, which is a first for Godolphin and Latymer!

The teams have all shown outstanding commitment to the project over the last eight months. They have designed, developed, and manufactured their model Formula 1 cars using a range of technologies and techniques; they have sought out sponsors, marketed their teams, and put it all together in portfolios, pit displays, and presentations to showcase all their efforts.

They also got to race their cars against all 39 other teams taking part, creating some really exciting action. All the cars were very competitive, showing off some great engineering. Quick reactions are also key in racing and Luna of VRRRedline was a cut above, picking up the Lightning Reaction Award for her reaction time of just 0.138 seconds!

Huge congratulations to all the teams taking part and thanks to Mr Stephens and the Physics department; we’re very proud of everyone!
