News French Trip to the Imperial War Museum 21.11.2025

On Wednesday the Lower Sixth French A Level students visited the Imperial War Museum in Lambeth, both to celebrate Languages Week, and to gain further insights into one of their set texts, Un Long Dimanche de Fiançailles, which is a World War One romance film.

Maia, Lower Sixth, described the trip as follows:
‘We started off by walking around the WW1 exhibition on the lowest floor, which gave us an opportunity to see aspects of our film in real life, from uniforms and guns to a trench experience, which even contained an entire tank, and some – hopefully – fake rats… We also looked at some of the war paintings on the top floors, including the very poignant Gassed, by John Singer Sargent and Oppy Wood by John Nash. All in all it was a fabulous trip and really helped us put the war into perspective for our text!’
