News Double Victory for G&L Rowers at Kingston Head 24.03.2026

G&L rowers enjoyed a sunny and highly successful outing at the Kingston Head of the River last weekend, securing two impressive victories in both the WJ16 Coxed Fours and WJ18 Coxed Fours events.

It was a strong all-round performance from the squad, with additional crews delivering excellent results. Senior rowers stepped up to compete in open women’s categories, finishing 2nd in the Women’s Eights and 3rd in the Women’s Coxed Four, demonstrating both determination and depth of talent. Meanwhile, the J16 athletes showed great resilience by doubling up in the Eights, where they secured a commendable 6th-place finish.

Away from the river, some of the school’s youngest rowing talent also made their mark at the National Junior Indoor Rowing Championships (NJIRC) last week. Years 8 and 9 students competed by completing timed ergo challenges in the Fitness Suite, submitting their performances online against competitors from across the country. Year 8 students rowed for three minutes, while Year 9 students pushed themselves over four minutes to achieve their best possible distances.

All participants delivered fantastic efforts, with particular recognition going to Charlotte, Year 9, who achieved an outstanding 4th place nationally, and Sasha, Year 8, who finished an impressive 10th in her category. Their achievements highlight the strength of the school’s rowing programme and the promising future of its athletes.
