News Debaters Triumph at South Hampstead High School 12.11.2025

On 11 November, five Year 10 students set out for South Hampstead High School to take part in an exciting evening of debating. Representing Godolphin and Latymer, two talented teams took to the floor: Anoushka, Yasmin and Heloise formed one trio, while Nika and Elena made up the other—valiantly rotating to fill in for a missing third speaker in each round.

Over three challenging debates, the students tackled a range of thought-provoking motions. The first asked whether ‘people should never go above and beyond in the workplace,’ prompting discussions about work–life balance and corporate culture. The second motion—’This House would ban the burning of effigies of living people’—sparked debate on freedom of expression and political protest. Finally, the teams faced ‘This House regrets the rise in popularity of true crime,’ exploring questions of ethics, entertainment, and empathy.

Against a field of increasingly experienced opponents, both Godolphin teams impressed with their eloquence, teamwork, and quick thinking—winning all three of their rounds. Their outstanding performances earned them a shared first prize for the evening.

Congratulations to all five debaters on their success, and to their coach Izzy, Upper Sixth, for her expert guidance and support.
