News Year 8 Cultural Adventure and Language Trip to Salamanca and Segovia 02.06.2026

In the week before half-term, 46 Year 8 students embarked on an unforgettable journey to Salamanca and Segovia, discovering the rich history, art and culture of the region of Castilla y León in Spain.

Each morning, students immersed themselves in exciting and creative language classes, building confidence in Spanish and engaging enthusiastically with all activities. In the afternoons, they explored the beautiful city of Salamanca, visiting its historic University, the Cathedrals and the Roman Bridge. A climb up the cathedral bell tower rewarded them with breath-taking views across the city, while time in the magnificent Plaza Mayor allowed students to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy delicious ice creams. Throughout the trip, they also experienced a variety of traditional and delicious Spanish food, which added greatly to their cultural understanding.

A particular highlight was the afternoon spent at Finca Valverde, where students enjoyed a peaceful stroll through the countryside and the fields where fighting bulls are bred. This was followed by an interesting and thought-provoking talk on bullfighting and its cultural significance in Spain. Students then took part in a drawing competition, creatively summarising everything they had learned throughout the day, with a paella dinner providing a particularly memorable and authentic experience.

On the final day, the group travelled to the historic city of Segovia, where they visited the impressive Alcázar. Students then enjoyed a relaxed stroll through the town, making the most of their final opportunity to practise Spanish, purchase souvenirs and enjoy one last ice cream.

The trip was a resounding success. The students were a credit to the school throughout, showing enthusiasm, curiosity and excellent behaviour at all times. Combined with fabulous weather from start to finish, it was a truly memorable experience that will have lasting impact for our Spanish students.
