News Lower Sixth Explore Future Pathways: Higher Education Preparation Programme 21.05.2026

This week, the Lower Sixth took part in a wide-ranging programme of Higher Education preparation activities, designed to support students as they begin planning their futures beyond school.

A variety of university preparation sessions were delivered by Godolphin and Latymer staff, alongside visiting speakers and Old Dolphins. Lexie Carroll and Alexia Noirot (Class of 2016) returned to speak about studying Psychology and Physics at university, while Law applicants participated in a lively speed mooting session led by Old Dolphin Maia Oleksy (Class of 2021). Psychology applicants also enjoyed a fascinating lecture from Dr Nicola Johnstone of the University of Roehampton, who shared insights into her research in Cognitive Neuroscience.

Students considering international applications attended sessions on the US Common Application and supplementary essays, as well as guidance on applying to universities in Canada and Europe, including the Dual BA programme between Trinity College Dublin and Columbia University. A number of pupils also took part in mentoring sessions focused on developing communication skills and refining interview technique. We were also delighted to welcome Jennifer Barton, Schools and Outreach Manager at Durham University, who spoke about the application process, Durham’s college system and the new alternative personal statement format.

On Wednesday evening, we were fortunate to welcome Katharine Radice, Transition and Participation Adviser at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, who led an engaging session for pupils and parents on the transition from school to university.

The week has left the Lower Sixth well placed to continue researching their higher education options, with many pupils planning to attend university open days over the coming weeks.
