News Celebrating British Science Week 13.03.2026

To coincide with British Science Week, this week we hosted exciting science-themed activities, giving students the opportunity to explore scientific ideas in creative and hands-on ways.

Throughout the week, pupils from different year groups took part in a wide range of events designed to spark curiosity and enthusiasm for science. Activities included slime-making workshops, dissection clubs where students investigated the anatomy of the eye, and philosophy discussions exploring science-related themes. Among the highlights of the week were the Lower Sixth IB Collaborative Science Projects assemblies. These IB students have completed their research in groups of three or four and presented their posters on a range of titles: Building a Sustainable City on Mars: Living Sustainably on Earth; Saving Our Planet; Our Future Planet; and Designing a Utopian World. Year 11 and Sixth Form students also attended a special talk on ocean acidification as part of the Bespoke Natural Sciences programme.

Practical challenges were also a highlight of the week. Students had the chance to build and launch their own mini rockets, while others tested their problem-solving skills through physics puzzles set up in the main corridor. These interactive challenges included constructing a Lego model of the Artemis II Moon rocket, completing a Moon Landing jigsaw, and competing to achieve the fastest time solving a Rubik’s Cube.

The celebrations concluded with the Science Bake Off House Competition, where students combined culinary creativity with scientific thinking, The winners were:
Winning design – Sarah and Elsie for Quinn Brown – volcano cake
Winner for scientific creativity and explanation – solar system cake by Poppy and Charlotte for Lovelace
Winner for quality of bake – Jeanne for Naidu with her atom and conical flask biscuits

To round everything off, there was a Science Book Fair showcasing a range of fascinating scientific reads.
