News Maths Students find the Winning Formula 15.10.2025
It’s been an exciting and busy few weeks for our mathematicians, who have been involved in a range of high-level competitions — and achieved some remarkable results.
Earlier this month, all of our Sixth Form Further Mathematicians participated in either the UK Mathematical Olympiad for Girls (MOG) or the newly introduced Mathematical Competition for Girls (MCG). The MCG was launched this year to provide broader access, as schools are limited to just four entries in the Olympiad.
Our four MOG entrants rose brilliantly to the challenge of solving five complex problems in just 2.5 hours — all four earned Distinctions, placing them in the top 25% nationally. Thanks to their outstanding performances, Lucy, Year 11, Naomi, Lower Sixth, and Olivia, Upper Sixth, have qualified for the prestigious British Mathematical Olympiad Round One, a demanding 3.5-hour paper taking place next month. A special congratulations goes to Naomi, who achieved a perfect score of 50/50 — one of only nine students across the country to do so — and was awarded a prize in recognition of this exceptional result.
Meanwhile, in the inaugural MCG, every Upper Sixth Further Mathematician earned either a Merit or a Distinction, with the Lower Sixth also delivering an excellent showing. In total, an impressive 17 Distinctions were awarded, with Amelie, Lower Sixth, named best in school.
This week it was the turn of some of our Year 8 and 9 students who took part in a Team Maths Challenge at St Paul’s School competing with other local schools. Teams were mixed up so it was a fantastic opportunity for collaboration and team problem-solving and making new friends from outside Godolphin.
