News The Belles of the Ball 11.02.2022

Held over three nights in the Bishop Centre, an audience of parents, students and staff were treated to a fantastic production of The Belles of the Ball.

The play, which tells the story of the Dick, Kerr’s Ladies football team and their remarkable contribution to Britain’s First World War and sporting histories, is a story of embracing adversity and the entire cast and crew showed their ability to do just that. Covid had hit the cast early last week and quarantine restrictions meant we were down in numbers. On Tuesday night Georgia in the Upper Sixth stepped into the limelight, script in hand to take on the central role of Winifred. On Wednesday, Honor in the Upper Sixth was able to return to the role although she had never seen the set let alone rehearsed on it.

Like the remarkable munition women whose stories they told, against all odds the entire cast and crew displayed incredible courage, commitment and total professionalism in what were three fantastic performances.
