News Success in the London Schools Athletics Championships 15.06.2023

There were a number of success stories from the London Schools Athletics Championships last Saturday and on Tuesday this week.

Maya (Year 11) showed off her speed, securing a remarkable second place in the 800m race. Maya’s impressive performance not only earned her a personal best, but also saw her selected to compete in the national finals, the English Schools Athletics Championships.

Year 9 students Maeve and Arabella both competed in the challenging 1500m race. In the scorching heat, Maeve secured a well-deserved third-place finish. Arabella, in her first experience of the London Championships, demonstrated her determination in the face of tough conditions and showcased her potential for future successes in athletics.

Despite being the youngest in her age group and returning from an injury, Marianna (Year 8) qualified for the final and achieved a commendable sixth-place finish. Marianna’s performance solidified her as a rising star in athletics, with her sights set on achieving a national qualifying time for next year.

Siena in Year 10 showcased tremendous skill and endurance, delivering an impressive performance in the challenging 1500m race, once again battling the sweltering conditions with determination and grit.

In the high jump, Isabella in Year 9 soared to new heights, securing a fourth-place finish while equalling her personal best!

There was even more cause for celebration as Teah, Annahel, Bea, Alana, Marianna, Violeta, Amanda, Maia and Yasmin all competed in the Year 7 and 8 London Schools Athletics Champions on Tuesday, representing Hammersmith and Fulham. The highlights from Tuesday’s racing was seeing Marianna receive a silver medal in the 100m when she finished second in London. Violeta also picked up a bronze medal for finishing third in London in the 200m.
