News Senior House Music Festival 2024 02.02.2024

On Tuesday, 60 entrants, representing all six houses, gathered for the highly anticipated Senior House Music Competition. It was a day filled with electrifying performances, showcasing the incredible musical prowess of the school’s students.

The first round saw a dazzling array of talent on display, with performances spanning a multitude of instruments and musical styles. From the expert melodies of the organists to the virtuoso skills of the violinists and timpanists, every performer delivered a skilful performance.

The adjudications were no easy feat, given the exceptionally high standard of musicianship displayed, and we are very grateful to our guest adjudicator, Mr Will Henderson (bassist on the West End production of Les Miserables), for all of his hard work across the day.

In Class 1, Corrin, Sarah, and Amaryllis emerged victorious in Keyboard, Voice, and Percussion respectively, representing Lovelace and Bassi houses with pride. Class 2 saw Frida, Ella and Chloe clinch the titles in Keyboard, Voice, and Woodwind, showcasing the talent of Maathai and Sheppard houses. Eliza, Reem, Inez and Josie triumphed in Class 3, excelling in Keyboard, Voice, Strings, and Woodwind, representing Naidu, Maathai, and Sheppard houses. The duet category was a highlight, with Isabel and Paloma delivering an expert performance that captivated the adjudicator. In the ensemble category, Nell, Zoe, Lauren, Reem, Olivia, and Josie combined their talents to give a beautiful performance of ‘Me and Mr Jones’.

The Final of the competition was held on Thursday evening, with only two points separating the top three houses. Under the expert adjudication of Audrey Hyland, Deputy Head of Voice and Opera at the Royal College of Music, the finalists received invaluable feedback and praise for their exceptional performances. In the end, Amaryllis, Chloe and Inez emerged as the overall winners of their respective classes, with Reem and Josie receiving highly commended awards for their outstanding contributions; and Maathai emerging as the overall winner of the competition.

The Senior House Music competition really showcased the wonderful talent and passion of the students here at Godolphin. Congratulations to all involved for a truly unforgettable event!
