During the first week of October half-term the Italian Department took nine girls from Years 10 -12 to Florence. It was a fantastic opportunity for the girls studying Italian to sample Italian life in one of the most beautiful cities in the world whilst having nine hours of solid Italian language lessons.

The group arrived in Pisa and had a stroll in the Piazza dei Miracoli where they were awe-struck by the white marble of the leaning Tower gleaming in the sunlight! In Florence they visited the Doumo – The Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore – with its Brunelleschi Cupola, and climbed its higgledy-piggledy 463 steps to enjoy a breath-taking view of the city! The students and teachers overdosed on sublime art and splendid churches, delicious ice-creams and wonderful Palazzos until more steps took them to the magical Boboli Garden with its Renaissance statues and gardens created by the Medici family.

On the last day they ventured a little further afield visiting the beautiful city of Siena and the Unesco World Heritage town of San Gimignano which, with its towers, is an astonishing testimony of life in the Middle Ages.

It was a truly wonderful experience for both students and teachers and one we hope to repeat next year!
