News Godolphin and Latymer, Gelehrtenschule des Johanneums & Latymer Upper Orchestral Concert 28.02.2020

The orchestral exchange between Godolphin and Latymer,  Gelehrtenschule des Johanneums and Latymer Upper schools has been going for an amazing 39 years! Last night, our largest orchestra yet united for what was a truly magnificent concert which Godolphin was delighted to host in the marvellous acoustic of our Bishop Centre.

After a week of intense rehearsals, music students and staff performed a programme of orchestral music featuring Dvorak’s American Suite, Schumann’s Piano Concerto in A Minor (superbly performed by Latymer’s Alexandra), a Dittersdorf Double Bass Concerto and Vivaldi Bassoon Concerto (performed by soloists, Ozan from Latymer and Maximilian from Johanneums), and Sibelius’ beautiful Andante Festivo for strings. The rousing finale, featuring music from some of Richard Rodgers’ beloved musical scores – The Sound of Music, Carousel and Oklahoma, was a triumphant finish to what was a true celebration of music and friendship, and we very much look forward to going back out to Hamburg in two years time.

A special thank you to all of our families who have hosted members of the orchestra this week – without their generosity and hospitality this wonderful exchange would not be possible.
