News Extra-Curricular Clubs and Societies in full swing 30.04.2020

Two weeks into the Summer Term and the extra-curricular programme is in full ‘virtual’ swing! Most of the clubs and societies run during lunchtime at 1.30pm giving girls a welcome break from their lessons and a chance to ‘meet’ with friends from outside their study groups. Now is also the perfect time for girls to try something new!

Looking after body, mind and soul is very important in these challenging times and we are running Yoga on Monday for Years 7 – 9 and on Tuesday for Years 10 – Upper Sixth; Mindfulness on Wednesday and Friday; and Christian Union on Thursday. For those who would like something a bit more energetic there are Netball Skills with the netball coaches on Tuesday and Zumba on Wednesday. Members of the GSA Club are also pleased to be ‘meeting’ up on Fridays.

Reading doesn’t need to be a solitary activity: there’s Book Club for Year 9 on Monday, Years 7 and 8 on Thursday, and for Years 10 – Lower Sixth on Friday.

Debating has always been a strong Godolphin tradition and is as popular as ever with the Year 10 and 11 Debating Club in action on Thursday and Years 7 – 9  arguing the point on Friday.

Subject clubs and societies are being led by our teachers and Sixth Formers and include Spanish Chats (Thursday) and Linguistics (Tuesday), History Quiz Club (Monday), Lower and Middle School Maths Fun (Thursday), Extension Maths (4.15pm Thursday), Senior Classics (Thursday), Chem Club (Wednesday) and Iris Club for our physicists (Tuesday). This week’s Geography Society, that takes place on a Wednesday, saw a fantastic presentation on Rewilding by Sophie in the Lower Sixth. Our Remote Ancient World Breakfast Club is now available accessible to the Godolphin Community on a Friday.

Last week we saw the launch of our virtual Friday Lunchtime Recital Series with absolutely amazing instrumental and vocal performances from our Years 7 – 9 students; this week it is the turn of our Years 10 – 11 so be sure to tune in to our new Sound Cloud account. Our Virtual Senior Chamber Choir is also rehearsing on a Tuesday at 4pm. Years 7 – 9 thespians are treading the boards at the Drama Club on a Tuesday.

And if, in these lockdown times, the girls want to get down to some knitting and baking, we’ve got that covered on Tuesdays and Thursdays respectively.

More clubs are planned over the coming weeks such as the Year 11 and Sixth Form Art History Society which is going to start on Wednesday lunchtimes from next week. Girls are able to access the full list of clubs and the ‘nicknames’ for sign-in from the new Student Portal.

Huge thanks to all the staff and students for enthusiastically embracing the latest tech to make these clubs happen!
