News ‘Dear England’ at the Prince Edward Theatre 18.01.2024

Last Thursday, Year 10 and Lower Sixth Drama students embarked on a trip to the Prince Edward Theatre to see James Graham’s Dear England.

The production, a compelling narrative on Gareth Southgate and the England football team, not only showcased the theatrical skill of its cast but also served as a catalyst for discussions on resilience and unity. The pressures of elite sport, the role of the national men’s football team in the national psyche, and challenging notions of masculinity are all explored throughout the play. With Children’s Mental Health Week right around the corner, Dear England sparked discussion amongst students about mental health as it delved into themes of toxic stereotyping, mental health in an age of social media, and overcoming the fear of failure.

The trip was not only a source of inspiration for our aspiring actors, but allowed them to connect with real-world narratives and the challenges they might encounter in their own lives.
