News Cross-country runners set the pace 25.11.2022

There have been a number of successes for our cross-country runners in recent weeks.

Our cross-country team are having an excellent season so far, with both Inter and Junior age groups qualifying for the regional round of the XC Cup. The regional round is always a tough course – two very muddy laps of Verulamium Park in St Albans – but our Inter team took the conditions in their stride, finishing second as a team and qualifying for the national final. A special mention to Maeve (Year 9) and Kyra (Year 10) for a top fifth and tenth-placed finish respectively. The strength in depth of this team is testament to their determined attitude and supportive (but competitive!) approach to training. We wish them the best of luck as they head off to the national final on Saturday 3 December. The juniors had some excellent performances on the day too, some of them experiencing a ‘proper’ cross country course for the first time.

In addition to this, many of the same girls represented their Borough last weekend at the London Youth Games Cross Country. The course at Parliament Hill is famous for its gruelling hills and is certainly not for the feint hearted. Well done to the following girls for selection and your performances on the day: Sierra, Salima, Maia, Liana, Danqi, Violeta and Flora in the Junior team (who finished eleventh), and Kyra, Maeve, Arabella, Siena, Alice and Rose in the Inters team (who finished twelfth). Maya Sutaria finished an impressive eighth in the Senior age group, showing some of our younger cross-country runners what can be achieved with hard work and perseverance. The Hammersmith and Fulham teams were made up almost exclusively of Godolphin girls, proving our dominance in cross country at the moment!
