News Classics Symposium 02.02.2022

On Friday 28 January our Sixth Form Classics students were delighted to attend the Classics Symposium held at Francis Holland School, Regent’s Park, featuring sessions by leading Cambridge academics. Other schools attending the Symposium included Brighton College, City of London Boys, Francis Holland, Maria Fidelis Catholic School and Westminster School and the students came together in St Cyprian’s Church. Sessions were held by Professor Robin Osborne of King’s College, Cambridge, on ‘Theatre and Democracy in Classical Athens’, focusing on the contrasting political impact of Ancient Greek comedy and tragedy, and Professor Caroline Vout of Christ’s College, Cambridge, on ‘Seeing God in Greece and Rome’, focusing on the ways in which depictions of God indicate the historical progression of his perception in different parts of society.

Latin, Ancient Greek and Classical Civilisation continue to be very popular subjects at Godolphin and Latymer and help to foster skills such as analytical and critical thinking, which are very pertinent to today’s modern world.
