News Year 10 Students Attend Library Volunteer Reception at Kensington Town Hall 06.02.2025

Last term, Year 10 students Luna and Safiya had the honour of attending the Library Volunteer Reception at Kensington Town Hall, where they shared their experiences of volunteering in local libraries as part of their Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Award. Their speeches aimed to inspire others to get involved in community service.

Luna, who volunteers at Kensington Central Library, and Safi, who supports Brompton Library, each spoke about their dedication to assisting their communities for one to two hours per week. They reflected on the impact of their work and the sense of fulfilment that comes with helping others.

The event was a memorable experience for both students, made even more special by the opportunity to meet the Mayor of Kensington and Chelsea, Councillor Will Lane, and the Deputy Mayor, Councillor Laura Burns.

‘Both the volunteering itself and giving speeches were very gratifying experiences,’ Luna shared. ‘Knowing that you have made a difference is extremely fulfilling.’

Their involvement in the reception highlighted the importance of community service and showcased the meaningful role young people can play in their local areas. The school is incredibly proud of their achievements and hopes their story encourages more students to explore volunteering opportunities.
