News Rowers Celebrate at Junior Inter-Regional Regatta and GB Junior Pairs Trials 01.05.2025
At the end of April our J16 Eight (Year 11s) travelled to Nottingham to race at the Junior Inter-Regional Regatta. Based on their success at the Schools Head our crew had been selected to represent the London Thames region.
With an early 9.15am start , the J16s made quick work of their 1km time-trial, finishing third and just three seconds behind the fastest 8 – claiming a spot in the A final! Determined to improve upon their time-trial placing, the crew stepped up their game in the final, showcasing their technical skill and mental fortitude. In an exciting final race they stuck with the two fast crews from Thames Upper and Thames London West, and together they pulled away from the rest of the field. Sadly the crews from Thames London West and Thames Upper proved just a bit quicker on the day, and the Godolphin crew finished in third place. It was a truly excellent start to their regatta season, coming away with a bronze medal and showcasing some great rowing and racing.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, Lower Sixth student Lara raced in the GB Junior Pairs trials. Lara rowed exceptionally well, coming through the field in the final in a very strong race and placing very strongly overall. This result means that Lara is one of 14 Junior women chosen to represent Great Britain at the Munich Junior International Regatta on the Olympic Lake this weekend. Congratulations to Lara on being selected to race for GB, which is a fantastic achievement. We wish her the best of luck!
