News Linguists Excel in MFL Translation Bee 20.05.2025
On Thursday 15 May, one Year 8 and five Year 9 students travelled across London to take part in the London Regional Final of the MFL Translation Bee, held this year at the Frances Bardsley Academy for Girls in Hornchurch.
Reaching the regional stage was already a remarkable achievement; these students were among the top 63 out of nearly 4,000 competitors who began the contest across London back in September. Their task? To translate as many sentences as possible from English into French, German or Spanish in just one minute – using the past, present and future tenses – all in front of a live audience.
Huge congratulations to the following students who placed in the top three for their respective languages and have qualified for the National Finals at Cambridge University later this term:
• Bethel (3rd place, French)
• Héloïse (1st place, Spanish)
• Yasmin (3rd place, Spanish)
• Lara (2nd place, German)
• Victoria (3rd place, German)
The best of luck at the Nationals!
