News IRIS Projects: Authentic Research and Innovation 25.06.2026

Unfortunately, this year’s annual IRIS (Independent Research in Schools) conference at Friend’s House in London, where our students were due to present their research, was cancelled due to the June heatwave.  Students had worked on a variety of original projects this year, including the impact of safari tourism on elephant movement, the rate at which second language learners develop a native-like pronunciation of non-native consonants, as well as the effect of surface area on the breakdown of plastics in a recycling cycle.  Students also worked on IRIS-sponsored projects, such as designing plane fairings to reduce air resistance in potential hydrogen-powered planes, and replicating the discovery of the Higgs Boson using data provided by CERN.

Although the conference was cancelled, we are very proud of our students and their hard work on their projects. Their research posters will be presented and put up for display next academic year.
