News Gold Award Success for Mariella in Prestigious Oxford University Essay Competition 14.05.2026

We are absolutely thrilled to hear that Mariella, Lower Sixth, has won a gold award in the Lincoln College Life Sciences Essay competition. Students were invited to write an essay of up to 1,500 words in answer to their question: “How feasible is it to generate ‘mirror life’? Would doing so be a good idea?”. Entrants were able to approach the question in whatever way was most meaningful to them, as long as they demonstrated that they are thinking scientifically. The questions are designed to test creativity and scientific intuition rather than knowledge.

As a gold winner, Mariella was invited to a day at Lincoln College on the 28 May. This event gives students the opportunity to meet science tutors at the College, hear about their research, and meet undergraduates studying Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences at Oxford.

Congratulations to Mariella.
