News Godolphin and Latymer Model United Nations Conference 25.06.2025

In June we welcomed 150 students and teachers from seven different schools to Godolphin and Latymer for a Model United Nations (GODMUN) conference. This was led by Unaiza and Alexia in the Lower Sixth with support from Axelle. These students have been preparing for the conference for around six months and put together a fantastic programme.

The event was opened by inspiring video messages from Ambassador Johnnie Carson and Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield. Both Ambassadors spoke powerfully about the role the UN plays in the world and the potential of young people to bring about positive change.  Students then split into committees where a wide range of resolutions were debated on topics from the protection of journalists and whistle blowers to the question of gang violence in Haiti. The General Assembly Crisis in the afternoon was expertly chaired by Unaiza and Alexia and considered how the UN should respond to a (fictional) data breach in Central America leading to the grounding of international flights.

As well as welcoming guest chairs from Kingsdale Foundation School, London Oratory, Lady Margaret, Wetherby and St Paul’s School, a number of Godolphin students chaired for the first time; congratulations to Lower Sixth students Ealaf, Annabel, Amalie, Marina and Alara for taking on this challenge. Well done also to Taya, Year 9, and Hannah and Carolina, Year 11 who were awarded prizes for their work in their committees.

Year 10 student Aarini commented; ‘GODMUN was my first MUN conference and I had a fantastic experience. I had a brilliant committee with some really interesting discussions and learnt so much about MUN and debating from the other delegates and the chairs and I also made some new friends.’

The conference was a fitting end to what has been a very successful and enjoyable year for MUN at Godolphin.
