News Cultural Celebration Programme: Diwali Assembly 04.11.2026

On Wednesday, our programme of cultural celebration continued with a Middle School assembly on Diwali, the festival of lights. Year 11 students Ananya and Amaya explained the cultural and spiritual importance of the festival, which is celebrated by over one million people. The festival is celebrated over five days and symbolises the triumph of light over dark.

Ananya and Amaya shared their own family traditions, which include thoroughly cleansing the family home, setting off fireworks and taking part in sacred rituals to dispel negative energy. They explained that traditional Indian food – particularly desserts like Gulab Jamun and Gujiya – is at the heart of the Diwali festival, serving as a medium for community and family bonding.

Thank you to Ananya and Amaya for presenting such an engaging assembly and offering Middle School students the chance to learn about the traditions and spiritual significance of Diwali.
