News Classical Association: Mythology Competition 2026 02.06.2026
This year, Year 9 Classical Civilisation students entered the Creative writing category of the Classical Association Mythology Competition. Their task was to create pieces inspired by the story of Arachne and Athena. The girls wrote compelling, fresh versions of this ancient myth both in prose and verse and really enjoyed the process. The judges valued how our students did something original with the story, such as telling it from a particular viewpoint or in a not entirely linear sequence.
The Classical Association had a record-breaking number of entries this year, and so we are all the more pleased with Sophie’s joint first place, commended by the judges for her ‘beautifully written piece, demonstrating impressive storytelling skills and a real command of the material’ and Emily’s joint second place for her ‘very interesting and sophisticated poem, boldly starting after the contest and thoughtfully reflecting on its aftermath.’ We were also delighted with Ella and Gigi’s highly commended awards. The girls will all receive book tokens.
Very well done to all of our creative students!
