News Loughborough University Girls Go Gold Conference 17.09.2026

Our Year 10 and 11 GCSE PE students had a fantastic day at the GSA Girls Go Gold Conference at Loughborough University, where they enjoyed an inspiring day celebrating women in sport.

The day began exploring the journeys of successful women who have progressed their careers both in and beyond the sporting arena. These included Olivia Murphy, former England Netball captain, Assistant Head Coach of the Vitality Roses and now Deputy Director of Sport at Loughborough University, who shared her experiences of developing a career within elite sport. Jazmin Sawyers, Team GB long jumper, Team England Commonwealth Games 2026 Long Jump gold medallist and now a sports presenter, also discussed her transition from elite competition into broadcasting and media.

A highlight of the day was hearing from a group of inspirational international athletes. Thea Brown, international heptathlete; Freya Colbert, an international swimmer with 14 senior international medals; and Rhian Edmunds, international track cyclist, spoke about their experiences of competing at the highest level while studying at university. Their stories demonstrated that it is possible to combine academic study with an international sporting career.

It was a truly inspiring and empowering day for our girls, leaving them with plenty of motivation to pursue their own ambitions in sport and beyond.
