News Gaby Wins Cambridge University Essay Prize 10.09.2026

Many congratulations to Gaby, Upper Sixth, who over the summer received the fantastic news that she had won the very competitive Cambridge Trinity College Gould Prize for Essays in English Literature which she had entered in the Lower Sixth.

This is an annual competition for talented Lower Sixth pupils with an interest in English Literature to further extend their reading and knowledge beyond the curriculum, while also encouraging students with a passion for literature to apply for a University course in English. Candidates are invited to submit an essay of between 1,500 and 2,500 words representing their own most ambitious, original, and imaginative critical work in response to a prompt which changes each year.

Gaby’s winning essay was on ‘Invention, it must be humbly admitted, does not consist in creating out of void, but out of chaos’ (Mary Shelley). Discuss invention in literature’. Congratulations, Gaby.
