News Turning the Temperature Up on Exquisite Playing at the Summer Chamber Music Concert 19.06.2026

On Thursday, we were treated to a sublime Summer Chamber Music Concert, featuring several of our superb chamber music ensembles.

The concert began with the Lower Sixth String Quartet playing Movement I of Grieg’s String Quartet in G Minor, Op. 27. This was exceptional ensemble playing, with wonderful shape, lyricism and drama, and felt much more akin to something you would hear at Wigmore Hall rather than a school concert.

This was followed by the Flute Trio, who played Habanera from Bizet’s Carmen with real style and shape; Recorder Ensemble, who performed a beautiful (and seasonal!) rendition of the medieval Summer is Icumen In; the Clarinet Choir (giving their debut performance!) performed the ever-popular Circle of Life from The Lion King and Lennon & McCartney’s Yesterday, both with real warmth and dynamic shape; and, finally, the Caswell Singers (also giving their debut performance!) who performed the joyful and upbeat Oh, Won’t You Sit Down.

What a splendid way to spend a Thursday lunchtime!
