News Lower Sixth Step Back in Time to the Industrial Revolution at the Science Museum 18.06.2026

One of the benefits of Godolphin’s location in west London is our proximity to the some of the world’s greatest museums.

Lower Sixth Modern History students were able to pop along to the Science Museum for a morning of interdisciplinary study of the ground breaking inventions which drove the Industrial Revolution including the Puffing Billy locomotive and the spinning Jenny. Seeing the scale of the steam-powered machinery installations reinforced our appreciation of the awe with which contemporaries must have witnessed the transformation of the landscape and the radical changes in working practices. Students were able to better evaluate the many reasons why Britain became the workshop of the world in the nineteenth century with scientific invention being a significant factor.
