News Spring Instrumental Concert: An Exuberant Evening of Music 27.03.2026

Our Spring Instrumental Concert, featuring all of our large instrumental ensembles, was absolutely magnificent. It was a particular delighted to see Opus 7, our dedicated Year 7 String Ensemble, in action again; that they are already so accomplished bodes very well for the musical health of our school. The Concert Band, Philharmonia and our two Percussion Ensembles gave wonderful performances of a number of foot-tappingly upbeat numbers, including a particular exuberant Mamma Mia! medley.

It was excellent, too, to welcome our String Ensemble and Symphony Orchestras back to the stage after, only two weeks ago, accompanying our choirs so magnificently in our Spring Choral Concert. In doing this, their achievements should not be understated; we are so proud of all of them.

One particular highlight of the concert was a performance of the first movement of Schumann’s Cello Concerto, played by Inez, Upper Sixth. This was an outstanding performance, full of lyricism and shape.

The concert concluded with the entirety of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1, played by the Symphony Orchestra. This was a remarkably sophisticated and drama-laden performance; it is usual to hear this kind of work in professional concert halls, but far less common to hear it at a school concert.

Many, many congratulations to all of our performers.
