News Students and Parents Gain Valuable University Guidance from Nick Hillman OBE 26.03.2026

Students and parents in Years 10–Lower Sixth attended an insightful talk on Wednesday delivered by Nick Hillman OBE, Director of the Higher Education Policy Institute (HEPI).

Mr Hillman, who has led HEPI since 2014, brought a wealth of experience to the session. Earlier in his career, he worked at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills as Special Adviser to David Willetts, and also spent time as a History teacher and in policy development at the Association of British Insurers.

During the talk, Mr Hillman explored key trends shaping higher education in the UK, including demographic shifts, the realities of university financing, and the evolving landscape of student choice. Attendees were particularly engaged by his practical advice on selecting the right institution, with an emphasis on finding the best personal fit rather than focusing solely on rankings.

The event concluded with a lively question-and-answer session, where parents raised a range of thoughtful queries. Hillman responded in detail, drawing on his expertise to provide clear and balanced guidance.
