News The Essence of Economics with Dr Jordi Blanes i Vidal 25.03.2026

We were delighted to welcome Dr Jordi Blanes i Vidal, Associate Professor of Managerial Economics and Strategy in the Department of Management at the London School of Economics, to speak at our Economics Society.

Dr Blanes i Vidal delivered an engaging and thought-provoking talk on ‘What is Economics about?’ in which he emphasised the importance of understanding causality when analysing real-world issues. He illustrated this through examples drawn from his own research, providing students with a valuable insight into how economists think and work in practice.

His presentation was both inspiring and intellectually stimulating, prompting a wide range of thoughtful questions from students, all of which he answered with great clarity and depth.
