News Senior House Music Competition 17.10.2025
During the week before the October half-term, we enjoyed a fantastic line-up of student performances at the Senior House Music Competition, which concluded with a wonderful Final on Thursday evening.
Tuesday’s preliminaries saw a full day of competition, with 89 pupils giving a total of 99 performances across a range of solo, duet, and ensemble categories. Pupils took part in three solo classes: Class 1 (Grades 3–5), Class 2 (Grades 6–7), and Class 3 (Grade 8 and above). The standard was very high throughout, and our adjudicators, Kirsty McLean and Adam Collins, had a difficult job selecting the winners in each class.
The winners from Tuesday returned on Thursday to compete in the Final. Performances were polished and confident, and our adjudicator, Mr Peter Gritton, gave very positive feedback about the quality of music across the evening.
Congratulations to Chloe, Year 11, (Vocal trophy), Giselle, Year 10, (Class 1 trophy), Sophie, Year 11, (Class 2 trophy), Inez, Upper Sixth, (Class 3 trophy), and The Decibelles, Year 10, (Ensemble trophy). Well done too, to Sheppard House, who won the overall competition with a total of 243 points.
Additionally, this year’s Director of Music’s commendation goes to Sasha, Kristina, Anne, Daisy, Isabel, Emily, and Julieta for their excellent performance of ‘Someday’ for vocal quartet, guitar, piano and an excellent array of percussion instruments. Although they didn’t reach the Final, their entry was full of musicality and invention. It also happened that, across the band, all six Houses were represented.
Finally, huge congratulations to everyone who took part. Pupils supported each other throughout, showing commitment, teamwork, and musical skill in abundance. And many thanks, of course, to our fantastic Music department for organising and the event and accompanying the girls.
